Mateus Dutra

Mateus Dutra, a visual artist from Goiânia, delves into an artistic exploration that examines the relationship between drawing and painting, emphasizing gesture and memory. Influenced by the rich graphic culture of Brazil and contemporary muralism, he incorporates forms inspired by the unique aesthetics of the cerrado in the central plateau.

His work stands out for its conceptual, poetic, and plastic contours, blending striking gestures, fluid lines, vibrant colors, and characteristic graffiti cutouts with the subtlety of meticulous strokes provided by tools such as brushes and pencils. This cohesive fusion harmoniously adapts to traditional supports, often on smaller scales than urban dimensions.

Mateus’s painting progressively evolves, centering drawing as the primary graphic expression. By exploring chromatic nuances and the pictorial matter of diverse forms, he invites the observer to a more intimate experience with the materiality of the artwork. The result is a rich record of organic, laced forms immersed in memory.

In addition to his dedication to artistic production, Mateus is a restless artist involved in various cultural expressions. His experience includes working as a scenographer for Quasar Cia de Dança (GO), as well as directing and producing stages at prestigious art festivals in Goiás and the Federal District. The artist’s journey, marked by drawings, canvas paintings, and murals, resonates through urban interventions, collective and solo exhibitions in Windhoek (Namibia), São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and Goiânia. Currently represented by Cerrado Galeria de Arte (Goiânia/GO) and Casa Albuquerque Galeria (Brasília/DF).
